»Stop Killing Us«

Several brutal murders of women shock Kenya. Thousands of people marched through the streets of the capital Nairobi to protest the violence. Some demonstrators held up posters with photos of murdered women, others chanted slogans such as "Patriarchy kills" and "Being a woman should not be a death sentence." “Femicide is the most brutal form of gender-based violence,” said the human rights organization Amnesty International on the occasion of the protest march in Nairobi.

Without gloves, but with mom

The waistband with the inscription “Mum” belongs to the British Peter Hayes. At the end of January he was in the ring at a boxing match in London's O2 Arena - but without gloves. They have actually been a part of boxing since 1892, but they are banned in so-called “bare-knuckle boxing”. The boxers fight each other with bare hands.

Do not Cry

If you look at the economy, the tears of this mural at the Oriente train station in Lisbon will soon have to be figuratively dried. At the same time, the tourism sector - one of the most important economic factors - broke a new record with 30 million guests and 77.2 million overnight stays in 2023.

In the last minute

In the European Handball Championship game, the Netherlands took a timeout with 25 seconds left. At this point, Portugal was only ahead by one goal. Shortly before the end, the Dutch managed to equalize to make the final score 33:33. The Netherlands had already found themselves bottom of the group before the game, but the draw was not enough for Portugal to advance, as Slovenia surprisingly won against Denmark later in the evening. The Portuguese Pedro Portela could not have guessed this when he gave the Dutch player Luc Steins a comforting hug.

Deadly show

People protest against the resumption of bullfights in Mexico City. The Supreme Court previously overturned an earlier ban. Then the first bullfight took place after a break of a year and a half, with more than 41,000 spectators watching it in the world's largest bullring, Plaza de Toros México. Shortly afterwards, the controversial tradition was banned again. A possible final ban on bullfighting will now be discussed at a court hearing in February.
