Social media platforms were abuzz after reports were issued about the deployment of police forces and civil servants by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the northern Gaza Strip, despite the Israeli occupation’s announcement a month ago that it had managed to dismantle the movement in this region.

The Associated Press had quoted Gazan citizens and a Hamas official as saying that the movement had begun deploying police forces and civil servants near government offices and Al-Shifa Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, and had also begun disbursing their monthly salaries.

The US agency interpreted the re-emergence of Hamas in Gaza City as evidence of the movement's steadfastness, despite the air and ground raids launched by Israel against it during the past four months.

Reports indicated that resistance police forces were deployed in the northern Gaza Strip, after the Israeli army withdrew completely from several areas in the northwest of the Gaza Strip, for the first time since the start of the ground incursion on the twenty-seventh of last October.

The military spokesman for the Israeli army, Daniel Hagari, said a month before the withdrawal that they had completed the dismantling of the military structure of the Hamas movement in the northern Gaza Strip, killed 8,000 militants, and seized tens of thousands of weapons and millions of documents in that area.

Pride and caution

The episode (1/24/2023) of the “Shabakat” program discussed the reactions of some tweeters, which varied between pride in the resistance’s heroic steadfastness in the face of the occupation forces, and warnings about Israel’s cunning and the possibility of using an air war strategy only.

The account owner, Magdi, expressed his admiration for what the resistance provided and tweeted, “120 days of massacres and the Hamas police are still standing, no salaries, no shelters, no equipment, no capabilities, and they are trying to impose security.”

As for the activist Nasser, he called for caution against the occupation’s cunning, and not to rejoice in the withdrawals. He said, “The occupation army has traps and ambushes in every spot and in every house. Beware, O residents of Gaza, beware, O resistors.”

Activist Ahmed agreed with activist Nasser’s warning not to fall for the “hoax,” and said, “The ultimate fear is that the occupation army intends to strike with planes and change the course of the war in the Gaza Strip from ground to air.”

For his part, tweeter Abu Shuaib stressed the strength, steadfastness, and longevity of the resistance, and said, “Hamas was not broken, neither by the arrest of all of its leadership in 1989, nor by the expulsion of Marj al-Zuhour in ’92, nor by the campaign for power after ’94, nor by Operation Defensive Shield in 2002, nor in all the past wars.”

As for Abdel Qader, he affirmed the resistance’s ability to withstand, and said, “Israel will not be able to defeat an armed faction, no matter how much America and Europe stand with it, even if the war continues for years.” He continued, “In this war, Netanyahu has fallen into a trap, and his people will emigrate, and his army will abandon him.”

Although Israel completely destroyed more than 70,000 buildings, and more than 200,000 buildings were partially damaged in the Gaza Strip, according to reports, the resistance is still steadfast, publishing almost daily new videos of its members targeting occupation vehicles and soldiers, in most of the confrontation areas in Gaza strip.
