Don Murray
, who rose to fame for the 1965 film 'Bus Stop', in which he starred alongside
Marilyn Monroe
, has died at the age of 94, his family confirmed to the American press.
His son,
actor Christopher Murray
, confirmed the death to the New York Times on Friday, although he did not provide further details.
Murray made his film debut as the
cowboy in love with Marilyn Monroe
in that film, which earned him
an Oscar nomination
, and which was the beginning of a prolific and varied six-decade career in which he played roles ranging from a priest to a gay senator, passing for a drug addict.
He began his acting career on Broadway with the 1955 production of
"The Skin of Our Teeth
. "
After her he jumped into the cinema thanks to the director Joshua Logan seeing the work and choosing him as the protagonist of 'Bus Stop', an adaptation of the work by William Inge.
Throughout his career he participated in
35 Hollywood films
, some 25 television films, as well as dozens of television and theater productions, including the western series 'The Outcasts', which aired between (1968 and 1969) on ABC.
One of his last roles was in the 2017 American series Twin Peaks.
