Amdo Station, 4,702 meters above sea level, is located deep in the northern Tibetan grasslands and at the foot of the Tanggula Mountains in Amdo County.

On February 2, Anduo experienced snowfall, with the lowest temperature reaching minus 21 degrees Celsius. The low temperature and the hypoxic environment at ultra-high altitudes make reporters who live on the plateau all year round feel top-heavy, groggy, and suffer from obvious altitude sickness.

Zhang Haibo, 33 years old, is from Qinghai. He said that due to the high altitude and harsh environment, China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Group Co., Ltd. implemented a monthly rotation system for Amdo Station. In February, four railway employees were on duty at Amdo Station. Responsible for ticket sales, ticket inspection, safe boarding and landing of passengers, etc.

"Our class arrived in Amdo for shift change on February 1st. Altitude sickness treats everyone equally. We also had altitude sickness in the first few days after each shift change and needed to adapt." Zhang Haibo said that his symptoms of altitude sickness were all over the world. Insomnia at night, "Our experience is that you must never run. You will definitely be out of breath when you run. Just walk slowly."

It is understood that there are not many passenger trains passing through Amdo every day. They mainly include Z265 from Guangzhou to Lhasa, Z165 from Shanghai to Lhasa, Z8991 from Xining to Lhasa and the return trains above. At Amdo Station, the earliest arriving and latest departing trains of the day are the working sections.

"I live in the duty room of the station. I get up at 7:30 every morning and turn on various equipment in the station around 8:00. Three colleagues also arrive at work at this time, ready to greet and serve passengers on the Z265 train." Zhang Haibo said that the last train passing through Amdo was the Z166 train from Lhasa to Shanghai. After completing the departure of passengers on this train, the four railway employees and seven security inspection and inspection staff at Amdo Station can get off work. .

Compared with train stations in other provinces and cities, Anduo Station can be called "mini". It is a small building with only 4 rows of seats and a total of 72 seats in the hall of about 300 square meters for passengers to wait.

In winter, Anduo Station is covered with snow, and it’s completely white outside. The station is a little crowded, but it’s fully heated.

Among the four railway employees, the 38-year-old conductor Peng Min is the oldest and has been working at Amdo Station since it opened passenger services in 2017. 27-year-old Jiangqiu Dorje is from Mangkang, Tibet. He is mainly responsible for checking train diagrams at Amdo Station, checking whether the trains are on time, and checking tickets. Jiangqiu Dorje said frankly that the passenger transportation work at Amdo Station is not busy. "Staying here and serving Anduo passengers is our job."

Li Wengang, 34, is a passenger transporter. His daughter was born just over a month ago and he is a first-time father. He needs to be on duty at Anduo Station throughout February before and after the Spring Festival. He said he misses his daughter and wife very much.

At noon on the 3rd, passenger Nima waiting at the station said that he was from Bangai Township, Amdo County, a herdsman, and his family had more than 80 yaks. This trip was to take train Z165 with his mother to Lhasa to visit relatives, "We are going to Lhasa. Most of them take the train, which is safe, convenient and faster than driving.”

Sangdan's family of three also took the Z165 train to Lhasa. Their destination was Shigatse. "My wife is from Shigatse. We have already bought the train tickets. After arriving in Lhasa, we will take the train to Shigatse to celebrate the Tibetan New Year."

Sangdan said that he and his wife take trains between Amdo and Shigatse many times every year. "Trains are becoming more and more convenient now, especially since the high-speed train from Lhasa to Shigatse has been opened, and the ride is very comfortable." (over)
