The iconic Apollo Creed is no more. American actor Carl Weathers, known worldwide for his role in the “Rocky” saga alongside Sylvester Stallone, died this Friday at the age of 76. 

American actor Carl Weathers, known for his role as Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” saga, died this Friday at the age of 76. This is the announcement made by his family in a press release sent to the American media Deadline: “We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Carl Weathers, who died peacefully in his sleep.” 

He had appeared in more than 75 films

He had been the main rival in the ring before becoming Rocky Balboa's friend in the first four films of the saga, alongside Sylvester Stallone. Throughout his career, Carl Weathers has appeared in over 75 films. He was opposed to Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film "Predator". But he also starred in series like “The Mandalorian”, the Star Wars series, where he played the role of bounty hunter Greef Karga.

Before becoming an actor, he began his career as an American football player in the 1970s, playing eight games with the Oakland Raiders. He was also on the United States Olympic Committee.
