On the 25th of last month, the Kyoto District Court sentenced Shinji Aoba, who was charged with murder and other crimes, in the arson attack on Kyoto Animation's first studio in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, killing 36 employees five years ago. handed down a death sentence.



The bereaved families and employees are considering installing a monument in Uji City, where the company's head office is located, as a symbol to remember the incident and the existence of the victims, and on the 1st President Hideaki Hatta and others visited Uji City Hall. I handed over a request to Mayor Junko Matsumura requesting permission to install it in a city park.



Mayor Matsumura responded, ``We want to consider this positively because we want to remember this incident and pass it on to future generations.''

The design proposal for the monument was designed by the creators of Kyoto Animation and depicts 36 birds flapping their wings, representing the 36 people who died.



President Hatta, who submitted the request, said, ``I would like to have it built in Uji City, which I am familiar with, because it is a monument to express our gratitude for the support that came from all over the world after the incident.''



The aim is to have the monument installed by July, marking five years since the incident.
