Who will receive the Golden and Silver Bears at the Berlinale? The international jury, whose line-up has now been announced by the festival, will decide on this. In addition to the Mexican-Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o, who had already been announced as jury president, there are the American director and actor Brady Corbet ("Vox Lux"), the Italian actress Jasmine Trinca, the Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabushko and the director Ann Hui (Hong Kong, China) and the directors Christian Petzold (Germany) and Albert Serra (Spain) have been appointed.

Hui was already awarded the Berlinale Camera in 1997, Petzold won the Grand Jury Prize at the last Berlinale for “Red Sky”. Serra shone in 2022 with the postcolonial farce “Pacifiction,” for which he was awarded, among other things, two Césars, three Prix Lumières and three Premis Gaudí. The international jury can choose from 20 feature films and documentaries, including the latest works by Andreas Dresen, Abderrahmane Sissako, Mati Diop and Olivier Assayas.
The jury for the second competition, “Encounters,” is also made up of prominent directors: Lisandro Alonso (Argentina), Denis Côté (Canada) and Tizza Covi (Italy) were invited here. The short film jury can present a freshly crowned Oscar candidate from Germany. In addition to US director Jennifer Reeder and the Spanish sound artist Xabier Erkizia, director and screenwriter Ilker Çatak is there. His film “The Teacher’s Room” screened in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in 2023 and was recently nominated for an Oscar for best international film.
This year's Berlinale begins on February 15th and the winners will be announced on the evening of February 24th. Advance sales start on February 12th at 10 a.m.
