Few things have gotten the internet as excited over the past week as this year's Oscar nominations — or rather, this year's non-nominations. According to “Barbie” fans, two names were missing from the list of candidates for the world’s most important film award: Greta Gerwig’s for best director and Margot Robbie’s for best female lead. The blockbuster was passed over in these categories while being considered in seven other categories.

Immediately after the nominations were announced, Ryan Gosling, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Barbie's friend Ken, spoke out. "There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no 'Barbie' film without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie." After all, both of them bear the greatest responsibility for the film. Without Robbie and Gerwig's talent, courage and genius, the recognition of others would not have been possible, says Gosling. »To say that I am disappointed that they were not nominated in the relevant categories would be an understatement.«

Now Margot Robbie has commented on the non-nominations for the first time. According to the industry service “Variety,” she said during a panel discussion organized by the acting union SAG-AFTRA that she could hardly be sad about the success of this film. “Of course I think Greta should be nominated for directing,” Robbie said. "What she did was a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing."

Robbie wasn't completely overlooked at the Oscars. Because she co-produced “Barbie,” she was nominated as a producer in the main category of “Best Film.” “Our goal was to change culture, influence culture, simply create something that would leave a lasting impression,” says Robbie about the “Barbie” project. “We achieved that – much more than we could have ever dreamed of.” That was the greatest reward that could ever have come from it.

The Oscars will be awarded on March 10th. Before that, the acting union awards ceremony will take place. Robbie is nominated here – both for best actress and as part of the best ensemble.
