A tram driver in Essen was beaten up by unknown people on Tuesday evening. That is what the police said. The driver of line 103 had to stop briefly and get out because a shopping cart was on the tracks. When the 31-year-old got back on his tram, an unknown person suddenly sat in the driver's seat. The driver asked the man to leave the cab. The stranger insulted him and spat at him. Then he and three other men hit the driver so that he fell to the ground. The group is said to have kicked the man lying on the ground several times and then fled.

According to police information, a 16-year-old suspect from Essen was identified as part of the search. The remaining three men are said to be between 18 and 20 years old. The police are asking for witness information.
