Early-blooming camellias bloom at temples in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, adding color to the temple grounds in winter.

At Mangan-ji Temple in Matsue City, there are over 400 camellias of over 300 species, which the chief priest Noriyoshi Kaneda has grown over 15 years through grafting, etc., and the locals call it ``Tsubaki-dera''. It is affectionately called.

Currently, about 30 early-blooming varieties are blooming.

Among these, the camellia called ``Yume'' is characterized by its cute color, with alternating pink and white petals.

In addition, ``Yakshaku'' blooms with large, bright red flowers.

In addition, there are camellias that bloom flowers as small as your thumb, so you can enjoy a variety of varieties.

The ceiling of the entrance to the main hall is lined with wooden carvings in the shape of camellias, and you can enjoy camellias throughout the temple.

On this day, the precincts were covered in white from the snow that had fallen the day before, and the bright colors of the Karen camellias stood out even more.

Mr. Kaneda, the chief priest, said, ``I think these flowers have an indescribable elegance.I want everyone to enjoy the many varieties available.''

The camellias at Manganji Temple bloom one after another throughout the spring, and can be enjoyed until the end of April.
