While the number of bookstores continues to decline, so-called "independent bookstores", which are small to medium-sized and feature a unique book lineup, are opening one after another. From the 30th, an organization formed by publishers and others will now be distributing publication information on books and magazines, which they had previously done mainly to major bookstores, to independent bookstores. .

While the number of bookstores nationwide that carry new releases has decreased by about 30% over the past 10 years, the number of small and medium-sized bookstores called ``independent bookstores'' that sell books carefully selected by their owners is increasing.

In response to this situation, the "Japan Publishing Infrastructure Center" created by publishers and others has been distributing book sales schedules and content mainly to major bookstores, but independent bookstores who wish to use them can now use the site. I am planning to renew it on the 30th so that I can do it.

Until now, many independent bookstores have obtained information from each publisher's homepage, but if you register on the site, you will be able to access about 60,000 new titles published annually from approximately 2,800 companies, as well as information about past publications. This means that you can centrally obtain information on approximately 3.8 million books and other items.

Wataru Furusawa of the Japan Publishing Infrastructure Center hopes to increase the opportunities for readers to interact with books at bookstores by widely disseminating information to independent bookstores, which are opening one after another.
