The Palestinian resistance created a complex network of underground tunnels to neutralize Israel's military and technical superiority. After nearly 4 months of war, the occupation failed to decode these tunnels in which Palestinian resistance movements are believed to be holding Israeli prisoners.

International media estimates indicated that the Gaza Strip tunnel network includes 1,300 tunnels, extending about 500 kilometers, some of which reach a depth of 70 meters underground, and are divided into insurance, attack, defense, supply, and command tunnels.

Despite the Israeli army’s insistence on continuing its war on Gaza, it has not yet been able to reach the tunnel network, which was indicated by the Wall Street Journal, which quoted American and Israeli officials as saying, “About 80% of the resistance tunnels are still intact. “Which hinders Israel’s main objectives in the war.”

The American newspaper explained that Israel used several methods to try to destroy the tunnels, including “installing huge pumps to flood them with water, destroying them with air strikes and liquid explosives, searching them with dogs and robots, destroying their entrances, and raiding them.”

Activists' comments

The number revealed by the American newspaper regarding the Gaza Strip tunnels attracted the attention of social media users, in comments and tweets, some of which were quoted in the episode (1/29/2024) of the “Shabakat” program.

Arwa wrote, “Hamas activity in the areas from which the Israeli army withdrew in northern Gaza raises concern in Israel. 80% of the Hamas and Gaza tunnels have not been destroyed yet.. The army is living in a maze searching for tunnels.”

Ahmed commented on the issue, saying, "A failed, defeated paper army that was unable to crack the tunnel code... was unable to free a single prisoner... not even knowing the correct number or their whereabouts."

Ali Hamad believed that what the American newspaper reported were “deceptive statements. The Zionists want to justify their killing of civilians, their displacement, and the destruction of all of Gaza so that it becomes uninhabitable for living.”

In this context, Samir asked, “Aren’t such reports intended to incite Western public opinion against Hamas, which, according to their propaganda, is terrorist and wants to wipe out the entity?”

Adnan Al-Dali wrote, "The truth that the enemy does not dare to say is that he was defeated in Gaza, that it has become a graveyard for him, and that military vehicles have become easy bait for Al-Yassin missiles."
