A month ago, the activists of the climate protection group Letzte Generation had already blocked the Straße des 17. Juni in Berlin. Now, on Saturday afternoon, shortly after the start of the announced action at twelve o'clock, hundreds of demonstrators gathered again on the section of road between the Victory Column and the Brandenburg Gate. It was the second blockade announced as a "mass occupation" in Berlin.

According to the police, more than 800 participants took part, and the Last Generation writes on Platform X (formerly Twitter) of 1,500 people.

Some of them sat down on the ground, others stopped. People from other groups were also on site and held signs. By the afternoon, no one had glued themselves to the street, said a spokeswoman for the local climate protection group. The situation is peaceful. The police also reported that there had been no special incidents. "Parents came with their children, grandchildren brought their grandparents," said Rolf Meyer, spokesman for the Last Generation.

According to the Last Generation, the blockade was supposed to end between 16:30 and 17:00 p.m. The access road from the Großer Stern in the direction of the Brandenburg Gate was closed. Traffic continued around the roundabout.

Shortly after the blockade began, thousands of people were supposed to come to the Brandenburg Gate for a peace demonstration at around 13:00 p.m. Former left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht was also expected to speak at the rally.

The Last Generation has been protesting in many German cities since 2022. It calls for Germany to abandon fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas from 2030. The group had announced that it would peacefully protest for more climate protection at several transport hubs in Berlin on Monday.
