Hokkaido Electric Power Co. President Susumu Saito met with members of the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) for the first time since taking office on the 15th, stating that he would "make sure that there are any shortcomings" for the No. 3 Unit <> of the Tomari Nuclear Power Station, which has been undergoing a protracted review, and expressed his intention to do his utmost to conduct the review.

At Hokkaido Electric Power Company's Tomari Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3, the review process for restarting the plant has been protracted for more than 10 years, and the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has pointed out issues such as a shortage of human resources who can conduct expert discussions.

In June, the expected earthquake shaking was decided, and the examination of countermeasures against natural disasters such as tsunamis and volcanoes is still ongoing.

Against this backdrop, President Susumu Saito, who took office in June, met with the members of the Regulatory Commission on June 6 and explained the strengthening of the internal system related to inspections and the status of safety measures for the resumption of operations.

In response to this, a member in attendance commented, "It has been difficult in the past, but recently there has been an improvement in the response," while another member said, "The Tomari Nuclear Power Plant is the closest to an active volcano in Japan.

President Saito stated, "We want to make sure that there is a shortage, and we are also thinking about the investment of human resources, so we want to thoroughly consider it internally," and expressed his intention to do his utmost to face the review.
