First there were rumors that were started by the band themselves - now it's out: The Rolling Stones are releasing a new album. They want to talk about this "new album, the new music and a new era" on Wednesday with US talk show host Jimmy Fallon, as the Stones announced on their Instagram account on Monday evening. The 31st studio album is called »Hackney Diamonds«.

According to the British news agency PA Press, the interview with Fallon will take place in the London borough of Hackney. It will be streamed globally on the Rolling Stones' YouTube channel, according to the statement. The Rolling Stones' last studio album »Blue & Lonesome« was released in 2016.

The band had kept making vague hints about a new album. In August, for example, an advertisement for the fictitious glass repair company "Hackney Diamonds" appeared in the local London newspaper "Hackney Gazette", which observers interpreted as a kind of advance notice. "Hackney Diamonds" is a local slang term for shards of glass on the floor after a robbery, the BBC wrote in this context.

In addition, guitarist Keith Richards had told the dpa news agency in spring 2022 about drummer Steve Jordan, who had taken over for the late Charlie Watts: "Working with Steve Jordan somehow brought a new energy and joie de vivre." They now want to see "what we can still do in the new line-up. There's a lot in the works." Recently, it was also reported that ex-bassist Bill Wyman and ex-Beatle Paul McCartney were said to have been in the studio with the Stones.
