The doll manufacturer Mattel wants to continue to conquer Hollywood: After the success of Greta Gerwig's »Barbie« about the doll of the same name, a film is now being dedicated to the next toy.

As the US industry service »Variety« reports, »Polly Pocket« is already in the starting blocks. "Emily In Paris" actress Lily Collins is to take on the role of the micropuppet in the family comedy. The film will be directed and written by »Girls« creator Lena Dunham.

Robbie Brenner, producer of »Barbie« and all other Mattel projects, confirmed this to »Variety«. There is a script that she describes as "great." First of all, they're two of my favorite women ever," Brenner says of Collins and Dunham.

"It's been an incredible collaboration. Lena is so collaborative, rolls up her sleeves and really likes to dig around in notes and listen. She's incredible. Lily is so clever (...) and so productive.«

In addition, 14 other Mattel films are in active development, including "Barney", "Thomas and Friends" and "American Girl". And what about another "Barbie" movie? Director Gerwig said she wasn't thinking about a sequel right now: "Right now, that's all I've got."

Meanwhile, the film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, continues to break records after its release in theaters. According to estimates, as of last Sunday, the film grossed about $155 million (€139 million) in the U.S. and Canada in its first weekend.
