In Los Angeles, police have arrested an actor suspected of involvement in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. This is reported by various US media.

On video footage of the day, Jay Johnston is allegedly seen jostling against police officers. He is part of a crowd of supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump who forcibly gained access to the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. at the time.

According to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Johnston also holds a stolen police shield over his head and passes it on to other insurgents. Plane tickets show that he was in the capital on January 6. Confiscated text messages allegedly put an additional burden on him.

Johnston is scheduled to appear before a judge in Los Angeles. There is no comment from the actor's management yet.

In the U.S., Johnston is known as the voice actor for the animated comedy series »Bob's Burgers«. In doing so, he lends his voice to the character Jimmy Pesto. He also starred in "Mr. Show with Bob and David" on HBO, as well as in the series "Arrested Development" and the comedy "Anchorman".

18 years in prison for militia leader

Since the attack on the U.S. center of power, the legal process has been underway. At the end of May, the highest sentence to date was imposed: the leader of a right-wing extremist militia must be imprisoned for 18 years.

Extremist Stewart Rhodes of the Oath Keepers had already been found guilty of "seditious conspiracy" in November. In May 2023, a court in the capital set the sentence.

Trump supporters had stormed the seat of Congress on January 6, 2021, to prevent Democrat Joe Biden's November 2020 election victory from being confirmed. There were several deaths. Trump had incited his supporters in a speech. His role is also currently being investigated by the authorities.
