The left-wing extremist Lina E. and three other defendants have appealed against their conviction. This was announced by the Dresden Higher Regional Court (OLG). Previously, the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk had reported on it. The defendants had been sentenced to several years in prison a week ago.

A spokeswoman for the Higher Regional Court said that the files would be handed over to the Federal Court of Justice, but that the verdict of the chamber would first have to be in writing. It did not provide any information on the expected duration of the appeal proceedings.

Convicts free for the time being

E. was sentenced last week to five years and three months in prison. The Higher Regional Court of Dresden found the Kassel-born student guilty of being a member of a criminal organization for several attacks on right-wing extremists and a man she mistakenly believed to be a neo-Nazi. Three co-accused men received sentences ranging from two years and five months and three years and three months.

All four convicts are currently free. The arrest warrant against Lina E. was conditionally suspended on the evening of the verdict. Previously, she had spent more than two and a half years in pre-trial detention. According to the OLG, the sentences do not have to be served until after a final conviction.
