CAN 2024 qualifiers: Houssem Aouar summoned for the first time with Algeria
Already qualified for the final phase of the next CAN, the Algerians will face Uganda on June 18 on behalf of the 5th day. On this occasion, Lyon's Houssem Aouar will participate in his first meeting with the Fennecs.

The coach of the Fennecs, Djamel Belmadi, unveiled Tuesday, May 30, his list of 26 players selected for the match against Uganda in Douala, Cameroon and the friendly match against Tunisia on June 20 in Annaba.
New to the list
This will be the first cape for Houssem Aouar, who has chosen to represent his parents' country. The native of Lyon, 24, had made his change of sporting nationality at the beginning of the year. If he comes out of a complicated season with OL, with 16 games played, a goal and an assist, Aouar should be a major asset for the Greens. He had participated in OL's incredible run during the 2020 Champions League, which ended in elimination against Bayer Munich, after taking out Juventus and especially Manchester City.
Another player from the France Championship is called up for the first time. This is the revelation of Angers, Himad Abdelli, author of remarkable performances at the end of the season. In between, Le Havre's Victor Lekhal is recalled more than four years after his one and only cape. Goalkeeper Oussama Benbot and striker Aymen Mahious (top scorer of CHAN 2022), both finalists of the Confederation Cup with USM Alger, are also summoned for the first time.
Belmadi's list includes the usual cadres such as Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani, Aïssa Mandi, Ramy Bensebaïni and Baghdad Bounedjah. Goalkeeper Raïs M'Bolhi, Youcef Belaïli, Isamël Bennacer, Youcef Atal, and Andy Delort are missing.
