On average, spring in Germany was wetter than it has been for ten years. In March, as much precipitation was measured as last 22 years ago, said the German Weather Service (DWD) in its preliminary spring balance. April was rainier than it had been for 15 years. In May, the rainfall then became less. The month was clearly too dry, especially in the northeast.

On average, around 200 liters per square meter came together in the three spring months, as the DWD balanced. Compared to the years 1961 to 1990, this is an increase of around eight percent, and compared to the years 1991 to 2020 even of 17 percent.

The spring was also warmer than average: according to the evaluations, the average temperature was 8.7 degrees, one degree above the value of the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990.
