A three-dimensional scan of the Titanic this month found a necklace among the wreckage. It's not the 'Heart of the Sea', the gem that Rose (played by Kate Winslet) threw into the sea in the famous 1997 film, but it has also caught the attention of researchers who have examined the wreckage of the ship.

According to Televisió de Catalunya, it is a piece of jewelry consisting of a tooth from a prehistoric shark, the megalodon.

It lies at the bottom of the sea since the luxury ship sank in the Atlantic after colliding with an iceberg, on April 15, 1912.

The company Magellan, which has digitally recreated the ship by recording and photographing it with two small submarines, has made the discovery of the jewel.

An agreement prohibits taking any part of the ship or its surroundings. But the company wants to know more about this necklace and know its owner as well as its possible heirs.

To determine who the piece might belong to, Magellan is using artificial intelligence to contact relatives of the 2,200 passengers on the Titanic when it capsized.

They are also using the technology to analyze images of passengers as they boarded, with facial recognition systems and to identify the clothes they were wearing.

Magellan chief executive Richard Parkinson has described the discovery of the necklace as "surprising, beautiful and breathtaking".
