【Commentary】On May 5, the third Sino-German Science and Technology Forum opened in Quanzhou, Fujian, a famous historical and cultural city and the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. More than 24 entrepreneurs, scientists, representatives of politics, business and academia from China and Germany attended the opening ceremony online and offline.

Hans-Peter Friedrich, former deputy speaker of the German Bundestag, chairman of the German-Chinese parliamentary group and former Federal Minister of the Interior, expressed in a video speech that he hoped that China and Germany could promote cooperation in digitalization, artificial intelligence research and other fields.

There are currently 80 billion people in the world, and in 50 years the world's population will reach 100 billion. Digitalization in all areas of life, including industrial production, is our common task. Making all systems work more efficiently is not just the task of one economy, nor of any one region of the world. All people must work to that end so that humanity can survive and even live on a planet that hosts 100 billion people.

The keynote speaker, Michael Schumann, president of the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade, told reporters that this is his second time coming to China after three and a half years, and this time he saw that China is full of vitality, China's openness and friendship, which makes him feel very good.

Michael Schumann, President of the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade

I very much recognize China's contribution to the world economy and to the construction of a multipolar world order. I very much agree with the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind. Therefore, we need to reduce confrontation and strengthen cooperation. I think to some extent, China can take the lead. This is China's story, and it's still going on.

In the afternoon of the same day, three parallel forums of "Digital Economy and Intelligent Manufacturing", "New Energy and Automobile Industry Development" and "Life Science and New Medicine" were held at the same time, and more than 30 Chinese and German political, business, academic and business elites and experts conducted dialogues, exchanges and experience sharing on scientific and technological frontiers, industrial development, and Sino-German cooperation.

Germany is a relatively developed scientific and technological power, a relatively traditional scientific and technological power. Then of course, China has a history and provides a lot of information on the development of science and technology, as well as a long history and tradition. And one thing that is special, and I think it is particularly important, is that China is very willing to cooperate with foreign countries because of its own country's hard work. I think it's not just a win-win, but it's a necessity to work together.

It is understood that this forum is hosted by the European and American Alumni Association (China Overseas Students Association), co-sponsored by the China-German Friendship Association, and undertaken by the Quanzhou Municipal People's Government of Fujian Province. The forum aims to build a non-governmental platform for exchanges and dialogues between the scientific and technological circles of the two countries, jointly explore new paths and new models for win-win Sino-German scientific and technological cooperation under the new situation, deepen Sino-German scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and enhance the friendship and mutual trust between the two countries.
