Ousmane Sonko spoke on Wednesday about his trial for rape which opened on Tuesday in Dakar. He is accused by a former employee of a massage parlour. The Senegalese opponent again rejects the accusations. For him it is a plot orchestrated by President Macky Sall. The government, for its part, denies any involvement in this affair.
Before the Holocaust, Germany committed another genocide, that of the Herero and Nama, in its former colonies in Namibia. Between 1904 and 1908, after a revolt, German soldiers opened the first concentration camps and exterminated at least 60,000 Herero and 10,000 Nama. A bloody colonial past long overshadowed by Germany, which lost its colonies in 1919, after the 1st World War. But in recent years and thanks to the work of activists, the country has begun to become aware of this genocide. A film directed by a German filmmaker is currently bringing this colonial story to the screen to confront the Germans with their responsibilities.
