She rose to fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of the band Ike & Turner Revue before breaking away as a solo artist.

"She had her greatest success when she turned 40. After the stormy marriage to her husband Ike Turner, who abused her mentally and physically, she recharged and achieved her greatest success, says Per Sinding-Larsen.

Turner was known for her energetic presence on stage, which was the starting point for a historic change for female artists, according to the music critic.

"She completely changed the image of what a black singer could do on a stage. In the past, you were perhaps a little more kind and friend, while Tina Turner came like a thundercloud and showed what life can offer, more complex," says Sinding-Larsen.

"The voice was like an engine that never needed to be oiled"

Culture News music critic Tali da Silva remembers an artist with a difficult life who always came out stronger on the other side.

"Songs like 'Simply the best' and 'What's love got to do with it' make you stop and turn up the volume. Not only because they are good and because she sings them as if it were life and death, but also because they symbolize a kind of primordial power that you wish you had, says Tali da Silva.

"Her voice was like an engine that never needed to be oiled," she continues.

Artisen is remembered by others

Shortly after news of her death reached the news media, a wave of reactions on social media from famous names in the singing world appeared.

Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger mourns his artisi colleague on Twitter, saying: "I am so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She was indeed a hugely talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her."

Former Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams has also posted a memorial post dedicated to Turner. "You have meant so much to us. Rest in peace," she wrote.

"The queen, the legend, the icon. There will never be anyone else. I appreciate the time I got with you," British model Naomi Campbell commented on the Instagram post reporting on the star's death.
