On the night of September 18, 2022, singer Melanie Müller is said to have shown the "Hitler salute" to the audience several times from the stage at an event in Leipzig. Because of the use of signs of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations, the public prosecutor's office in Leipzig has now brought charges against the 34-year-old.

The Leipzig District Court must now decide on the admission of the indictment and the opening of main proceedings.

The 34-year-old had denied the allegations and rejected any proximity to right-wing radicals. With the controversial gesture, she wanted to heat up the audience, she argued. It was not the so-called Hitler salute, but she had shouted "as often in my appearances the saying 'Zicke-zacke, Zicke-zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi' as a mood bringer" and pulled her arm rhythmically upwards, she said after the allegations became known.

In connection with the investigation, the police had already searched Müller's home in Leipzig last year. The singer has repeatedly been associated with the right-wing extremist milieu, but has repeatedly distanced herself.
