Xue Tao said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from Chinanews.com at the event that it is important for children to be able to open books happily. He believes that rich offline reading activities are very necessary, so that children can attract their attention to books and feel the charm of words and language.

As a children's literature writer, Xue Tao requires himself to present wonderful stories in his works. He said that it is not enough to have a wonderful story, but also to have deep thoughts and strong feelings beyond the story, so that children can be infected and shocked by reading. "In this way, they can really be with books, develop the habit of reading for life, and constantly dig out spiritual nutrition from books."

When talking about how to cultivate children's reading habits, Xue Tao said that it is important to teach by example. Parents and teachers should also be a person who loves to read, and only when adults pick up books can children around them be able to start reading.

In 2022, Xue Tao published the children's novel "Birch Boat". Based on the real-life experience of the inheritors of the national intangible cultural heritage birch boat skills, the work tells the spiritual journey of an old hunter and a boy, carrying a birch bark boat and a small roe deer, all the way north to Daxing'anling to pursue the spiritual hometown from a pure children's perspective.

"This work is not so much written as it is walked out." Xue Tao walked into the Xing'an Ridge during his literary travel, and the story of the Orunchun ethnic migration, hunting, and settlement down the mountain deeply moved him, so he wrote the novel "Birch Boat" in one go. "This is a book dedicated to the forest, a book dedicated to a hunting people, and a book dedicated to the growth of children." Xue Tao said.

Xue Tao was deeply gratified to see children and parents reading their own children's literature at the highway study room activity site. "The road study is a very romantic thing, and I am sure that every parent and child here is looking forward to this way of reading. Reading a few good books in a caravan-like environment is a great idea to attract people who don't like to read books. (End)
