It will soon be one year since the accident in which a sightseeing boat sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido.

In an interview, the bereaved family of Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, who lost their 1-year-old son, expressed their heartbreak, saying, "Since that day, time has stood still and there is not a day that goes by that I don't shed tears."

On April 4 last year, the sightseeing boat KAZU 23 sank off the coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula with 26 passengers and crew, killing 1 people, and the whereabouts of six passengers are still unknown.

Yu Ndeshima, an office worker from Matsudo City (20 at the time), took advantage of his weekend vacation to visit the Shiretoko Peninsula for sightseeing and was involved in an accident.

On the 6th, one year before the accident, Nde's parents interviewed him.

Among them, the 34-year-old father said, "Since that day, there has not been a single day that has stood still and I have not shed tears. How it felt to be thrown into the cold sea. I realized that I was the only one warming up, and I couldn't stop crying, 'I'm sorry.'"

This accident revealed the operator's sloppy safety management and the inadequacy of the government's check system, and measures were strengthened.

Regarding this, his father said, "I think it was an accident that was meant to happen, and I think there was a lack of awareness that both the operating company and the country checking it were jobs that entrusted lives. I want you to work hard to prevent it from happening again, without forgetting safety."

In addition, the mother (1) said, "I think that life and safety are the first priority, and I would like the country and the operating company to do work that allows them to believe that they want to ride and their families want to ride."

Father "I still can't open the present"

Ndeshima learned about railway safety at university, and after entering the workforce, he used his days off to travel around the country.

At that time, some women promised to marry, and their parents were looking forward to the future.

His parents said, "As the name suggests, he was a kind filial son, and he must have had many things and dreams he wanted to do in the future. I really feel sorry for them."

Furthermore, April 4, the day of the accident, was Yu's father's 23th birthday.

According to her mother, Yu bought a drone as a gift to enjoy as a hobby after retirement, and planned to celebrate with her family after returning from a trip.

After the accident, his father learns that Yu had prepared gifts, but he still can't open the box.

His father said, "One year has passed since that day, but I still can't sort out my feelings.
