After snatching victory on the wire in the first leg (1-0), the Stallions drew on Tuesday, March 28 in Lomé (1-1). Dango Ouattara opened the scoring in the 12th minute, while Kodjo Laba equalized for Togo in the 26th minute. With the defeat of Eswatini against Cape Verde (0-1) in the day, Burkina Faso was assured of obtaining its qualification in case of victory or draw.

In the first round, victory had been long to take shape for the Stallions who had fallen on a tough team from Togo. It was not until the last moments of the match to see Edmond Tapsoba, central defender of Bayer Leverkusen, free his own thanks to a goal in the 87th minute. The Stallions were full of confidence last fall by chaining three victories in friendly matches. They had beaten DR Congo, Comoros and Ivory Coast, host country of the next CAN.

Burkina Faso has been accustomed to the finals in recent years. Finalists in 2013 and semi-finalists in 2017 and 2021, the Stallions will certainly still be up to the event in Côte d'Ivoire.
