The signatures were handed over today to Ingrid Eiken, Director General of the National Property Board of Sweden, but will also be submitted to the Ministry of Culture and to Amanda Lind (MP), chair of the Riksdag's Culture Committee.

The petition aims to secure the future of music in the Musical Quarter. Earlier in March, a festival was also held in the house where artists and musicians such as Bo Kasper's orchestra, Anne Sofie von Otter and Loney Dear showed their support.

'A massive response'

Conductor Sofia Winiarski, who is behind the petition initiative, is overwhelmed by the response.

"In less than a day, we had collected over 5000 signatures and now we are up to 26,000.

In the Musical Quarter, the first Nobel Prizes were awarded, and here Birgit Nilsson and Georg Riedel also received their musical formation. Sofia Winiarski emphasizes the importance of why music must be allowed to stay in the house.

"It has an irreplaceable place in Swedish music and cultural life. If the music then ceases in this house, you will destroy part of Swedish cultural history.
