Yichang, March 3 (Zhongxin Net) -- The reporter learned from the Forestry and Garden Bureau of Yichang City, Hubei Province on the 20th that in the winter bird survey recently ended, the bureau observed three species of first-class protected birds, namely the Chinese merganser duck, the black stork, and the blue-headed loon duck, with a total of 20, an increase of 3.294 times over the same period last year.

In January 2023, Yichang Forestry and Garden Bureau organized 1 wetland management institutions in Jinhu, Agate River, Depression River, Qinglong Lake, Tianlong Bay, Jijia Lake, Jiuxi River, Baixi River, Qingjiang and Chinese Sturgeon Reserves, and jointly carried out a winter survey of bird resources in conjunction with Yichang Wildlife Protection and Management Station, Yichang Birdwatching Enthusiasts Service Center, and Three Gorges University Birdwatching Team.

According to reports, the survey combined the actual characteristics of the distribution of Yichang birds, and observed a total of 13,31 birds of 93 species in 1 orders and 45 families, including 3 birds of 294 species of first-class protection, 10 birds of 288 species of national second-class protection, 71,1 species of birds protected by the national "three haves" list, and 378 species of wintering waterbirds in wetlands.

In the survey, 115 Chinese merganser ducks were recorded in the Depression River Wetland Park, and a total of 176 Chinese merganser ducks were recorded in Dangyang Qinglong Lake, Yidu Tianlongwan Wetland and Chinese Sturgeon Nature Reserve. "The number of Chinese merganser ducks recorded in Hubei Province is 362, of which Yichang accounts for 48.62%, and from the survey data, the Yichang section of the Yangtze River and the depression river basin are important wintering grounds for Chinese merganser ducks." Located at the junction of the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Yichang is an ecological barrier in the Three Gorges reservoir dam area and an ecologically sensitive area in the Yangtze River Basin, and has become a wintering habitat for many birds in recent years. Wu Yin, a technician at the Yichang Wildlife Protection and Management Station, said that more and more birds are appearing in the Yichang area, indicating that the Changjiang River protection and ecological protection have gradually shown results, and biodiversity is becoming richer.
