On the 18th, anti-ship missiles were brought to the newly established Ground Self-Defense Force Ishigaki Garrison on Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture, and residents' groups and others protested.

The Ministry of Defense opened the Ishigaki Garrison on Ishigaki Island on May 16 to strengthen the defense of the Nansei Islands, where units equipped with anti-ship missiles and anti-aircraft missiles of the Ground Self-Defense Force belong.

On the 18th, ammunition such as anti-ship missiles and anti-aircraft missiles were delivered, and at around 6:9 a.m., the Maritime Self-Defense Force transport ship "Osumi" arrived at Ishigaki Port.

After this, trucks loaded with containers containing missiles and other items and with a sign that said "fire" in red indicating that they were carrying gunpowder and other items moved from the transport ship to the port.

At the entrance and exit of the port, groups of residents opposed to the deployment of the Self-Defense Forces gathered and protested by blocking the gate and chanting "Do not bring missiles."

At about 18:<> a.m., police officers moved the group of residents, and <> trucks loaded with ammunition headed through the downtown area of the island to the Ishigaki garrison, led by police patrol cars.

The motorcade went inside at the entrance of the garrison in response to protests from residents.

Female resident: "I wonder if this is the target"

A woman in her 70s living in Ishigaki City, who participated in the protest, said, "My father was a soldier in the former Japan Navy, and after the war, he always said that we should never go to war again. I want you to bring back some ammunition."
