China News Agency, Beijing, March 14 (Reporter Zhang Su) As the International Consumer Rights Day is approaching, the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China announced on the 14th that in 2022, procuratorial organs across the country will prosecute a total of 7,933 crimes involving the production and sale of counterfeit and shoddy goods and 14,449 people.

According to statistics, in 2022, procuratorial organs across the country approved the arrest of 2,376 cases and 3,943 persons involved in the production and sale of counterfeit and inferior commodities; they suggested that administrative law enforcement agencies transfer 2,373 cases involving 2,529 persons suspected of crimes, and supervise the public security organs to file 744 cases and 900 persons.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate recently released typical cases of procuratorial organs punishing crimes of manufacturing and selling counterfeit and inferior commodities according to law, including 6 cases including "the case of Liu, Xia and others producing and selling toxic and harmful food".

The facts of this batch of cases show that criminals filled talcum powder in the produced fake and inferior fire extinguishers, and criminals produced and sold fake and inferior lubricating oil.

There are even criminals who buy sibutramine, which is prohibited by the state to be produced, sold and used, add it to food, make weight-loss capsules, weight-loss chocolates and sell them to the outside world, causing adverse reactions to many buyers and even causing one death.

The judiciary will severely crack down on these illegal and criminal acts.

For example, Liu, who sold sibutramine, and Xia, who bought sibutramine for the production and sale of diet food, were prosecuted by the procuratorate, and the court sentenced Liu and Xia respectively for the crime of producing and selling poisonous and harmful food. A fixed-term imprisonment of 12 years and six months, eight years and six months, and a fine of 3.5 million yuan (RMB, the same below), and 980,000 yuan.

The person in charge of the Fourth Procuratorate of the Supreme People's Procuratorate said that these cases also reflect "digging out crimes from the source to the end, attacking them with precision, and completely cutting off the chain of crimes."

For example, the procuratorate recommends that the public security organs collect evidence from suppliers of sibutramine raw materials, manufacturers of diet foods containing sibutramine, contract processors, and sellers at all levels, so as to effectively crack down on the crime of poisonous and harmful food sold online.

The person in charge said that the next step for the procuratorate will be to promote the formation of a new pattern of pluralism and co-governance against counterfeiting and shoddy goods.
