Iwao Hakamada, who was sentenced to death in the so-called "Hakamada Incident," in which a family of four was murdered in Shizuoka Prefecture 57 years ago, was granted a retrial on the 13th. and her older sister, Hideko, held a rally to express their joy and gratitude to the supporters.

Iwao Hakamada (87), who was sentenced to death for the murder of a family of four in Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City, 57 years ago in 1966, said on the 13th that the Tokyo High Court said, Reasonable suspicion arises in the evidence used as the basis for his guilt, and Mr. Hakamada cannot be recognized as the culprit."



On the 14th, the day after the decision, a debriefing meeting was held in Tokyo, where Hideko, Hakamada's older sister, said, "When I think about Iwao's hardships after being in prison for 48 years, my hardships are nothing. I fought for 57 years. I'm really glad I came. I'm telling Iwao that the retrial will start today, but I don't think he understands it, so I'm going to say, 'Something good happened.'"



On top of that, she said, "I think there will be a special appeal from the prosecution, but since the decision to start a retrial has been made, I will do my best. It's going to be a long trial, but I'm looking forward to it." said.



Lawyer Ma Koyo appealed, "The road to acquittal has been laid. It's just a matter of how quickly you can get there. Special appeals are not allowed."
