A special exhibition of valuable cultural assets such as the "500 Arhats", which was handed down to Tofuku-ji Temple, one of Kyoto's leading Zen temples, and has completed large-scale restoration work, will begin on the 7th at the Tokyo National Museum. In the special exhibition, 157 items, including national treasures and important cultural properties, will be exhibited, such as Buddhist paintings and statues representing so-called Zen Buddhism art, which are owned by Tofukuji, one of the Zen temples representing Kyoto, and influenced the culture of the Muromachi period. will be



Of these, the 500 Arhats, which is an important cultural property, is a picture of 500 disciples who received the teachings of Buddha, painted by Meichou Yoshiyama, a representative Buddhist painting sculptor of the Muromachi period, divided into 50 widths of hanging scrolls. It is a representative work.



Restoration work that began in 2008 was just completed last year, and you can still see the vivid colors of the time when it was painted more than 600 years ago.



In addition, you can feel the scale of Tofuku-ji Temple, which is said to be one of the largest structures in Kyoto, such as the two Buddha statues that are over 3 meters in height and are designated as important cultural properties.



Mr. Shinsaku Takahashi, a researcher at the Tokyo National Museum, said, "There is a collection of cultural relics that give you an overwhelming sense of scale, so I would like you to experience the overwhelming Zen world."
