The celebrations linked to the children's universe expand.

First the baptisms were celebrated, with more or less pomp depending on the budget and family beliefs.

Communions also took their part (and continue), with invitations, dresses and

gifts galore

.

But except for these religious appointments, there were no more soirees, with the exception of birthdays, of course, with sandwiches, hooks and the corresponding cake to blow out the candle.

The shock wave of celebrations linked to children was extended with 'king size' birthdays (at peak production), baby showers (in which the arrival of the future baby is celebrated) and what is in style now: parties in those that communicate to a couple, friends and/or relatives if the creature that comes is

a boy or a girl.

These meetings are called, due to their American origin, 'gender reveal parties', and they are becoming more and more sophisticated.

You can prepare

balloons filled with

colored powder (pink or blue) that when punctured clear the X;

buckets with confetti;

cans of paint that are thrown on a canvas;

rockets with smoke;

with games like tic tac toe and even

wrestling matches.

Social networks have played a decisive role in the

dissemination of these festivities

and the escalation in their artificiality has been increasing, in the heat (it must also be said) of companies that organize them and sell ad hoc products.

Thus, we have gone from amateur videos recorded at home to crowded parties with suits and heels.

And the influencers, with succulent communities of followers, have also contributed from their profiles to the popularization of these festivities.

One of them, María Pombo, revealed that she is expecting a girl and that she will be called Vega:

The b-side of the 'gender reveal parties'

The invention of gender reveal parties is attributed to the American Myers Karvunidis in 2008, although now she has publicly changed her speech.

On the one hand, with a teenage daughter who prefers to wear a masculine aesthetic, she has joined the bandwagon of those who criticize these celebrations for

pigeonholing someone who was not even born

in a binary gender.

On the other hand, Karvunidis also spoke out against the scope of some of these parties, in which parents, in a display of excessive (and reckless) creativity, come to cause accidents and other risky

situations

.

This happened, for example, in California, where a 'gender reveal' party led to a serious forest fire.

"Enough. Stop throwing these stupid parties," an angry Karvunidis declared on Facebook.

The nonsense of gender reveal parties have gone a step further with the case of

Flamingo

, as a badly injured pigeon found in Manhattan dyed pink was baptized.

It is suspected that his change of image was due to a celebration of this nature and, likewise, his poor physical condition was attributed to the

toxic

dye he inhaled.

Finally, according to the animal protector that collected it, Wild Bird Fund, the bird died in early February, despite the care it received to improve its battered condition.

They tried to remove the coloration without success and the Flamingo was, like other birds, "very sensitive to certain gases," sources from the New York animal recovery organization explained in their networks.
