On the 3rd of the "Momo no Sekku" festival, sweets and hina dolls were offered to the female students of the "Shiraume Student Corps" who lost their lives in the Battle of Okinawa. It was held in Itoman City, Okinawa Prefecture.

At the Prefectural Second Girls' High School in Naha City, 56 students were mobilized as the "Shiraume Student Corps" to care for wounded soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa 78 years ago, and 22 lost their lives.



Every year, members of the Wakabai-kai, who tell stories about the experiences of former female students and student corps, visit the Shiraume-no-To tower in Itoman City, where the victims are enshrined, and offer sweets and hina dolls.

The number of former female students participating has decreased year by year, and in January this year, Kiku Nakayama, who served as the alumni president of the girls' school for many years and passed down her war experiences, died at the age of 94. Yutaka Takemura, who visited on the 3rd, Mr. (94) was the only one.



Mr. Takemura reported to his deceased alumni, ``I am shocked to hear that Chairman Kiku, who was a pillar of the school, passed away, but I am relieved that the younger generation is working hard to pass on the memories of the war.'' and gave incense.



After this, everyone sang the song "Ureshii Hinamatsuri" to refresh their thoughts on peace.



Chizu Inoue, the representative of Wakabaikai, said, "Every year, I used to pick up Kiku-san before coming here. I feel sad when I think that she is no more, but we will do what we can." was talking
