Yasin was arrested on New Year's Eve 2020 for his involvement in the kidnapping of rapper Einár, and was later sentenced to 10 months in prison for kidnapping.

In the time before his arrest, he was widely played on the radio, often ten times a day.

But after New Year's Eve, that changed.

Immediately after the arrest, P3 drastically reduced his radio rotation, something P3 Nyheter reported at the time.

Strong reduction

Kulturnyheterna has counted Yasin's songs in P3's playlists between January 2020 to February 2023, and can see that the number of plays has continued to decrease.

According to SR's music manager Anna-Karin Larsson, the decrease is due both to a focus on an older target group in P3, but also to the negative image the audience received of Yasin.

- I think his name has become one that many associate with violence and crime, she says and continues:

- Crime, or the state of the social debate, always affects how we choose music, what we play more of, what we possibly play a little less of.

In 2020, songs featuring Yasin were played 570 times in P3.

In 2021 after the arrest, the number was 131. The majority of these occur before the conviction.

Should not affect

Since his arrest, the rapper has released 13 singles and three EPs.

None of these have received any major rotation on the P3.

In comparison, it can be said that the singles also did not achieve the same success on the streaming service Youtube, compared to his biggest hits before 2021.

The question then is whether the verdict and the debate about the rapper will affect P3's attitude to his new album "Guns, poetry and sex"?

- It shouldn't affect, says Anna-Karin Larsson.

Despite that, interest has so far been cool: The two singles, released in January and February, which preceded this week's album, have only been played once each in P3.

At the same time, all 13 songs on the album are currently on Spotify's list of the 50 most played songs in Sweden.
