Four works by

José María Sicilia

that were exhibited at the

42nd edition of ARCO

have been temporarily seized by order of a Madrid court investigating a possible seizure of the Spanish painter's assets.

The information, anticipated by

El Confidencial

, has been confirmed to EFE by sources from Ifema-Feria de Madrid, where this fair takes place until tomorrow and where said works have been temporarily stored in one of its warehouses.

These are four paintings that were hanging at the

stand of the Chantal Crousel gallery in Paris

and that were sold in pairs at a price of

100,000 euros each

.

The four are also part of an exhibition entitled

The Thousand and One Nights

that, inspired by the theme of survival and their personal experiences, Sicilia (Madrid, 1954) is preparing for the Vatican Library for November.

According to

El Confidencial

, the embargo is due to a precautionary measure for

a possible seizure of assets

after the alleged evasions of the artist to

pay the divorce decree

of his second ex-wife,

Elisabeth Marie de Bazelaire de Boucheporn

.

Said sentence, handed down by a court in Paris in 2019, would force Sicily to pay some 800,000 euros, "which rise above one million for legal interest."
