"Grey's Anatomy" is one of the television world's true long-runners.

The series began airing in 2005 and since then Ellen Pompeo's character Meredith Gray has survived bombings, aggressive patients, hospital shootings, drowning, miscarriage, a plane crash, covid 19 and much more.

The current season is number 19 in the order and it is currently unclear if there will be more seasons.

Sara Rydstedt thinks it can be difficult.

- All the big characters who were there from the beginning have disappeared and the series has picked it up every time, but then Meredith and Ellen Pompeo have been there as some kind of foundation, she says.

“A bit like starting college”

Ellen Pompeo herself has said in an interview with actor and talk show host Drew Barrymore that it was time to do something new.

- 19 years is like longer than children live in their parents' home.

Parents keep their children at home until they turn 18 and start college.

So it's a bit like I'm starting college, she said in connection with the decision to leave the series.
