It’s hard to turn off the “overlord screen”, “hide and seek” when you jump, and “run” when you shake it—how long will such “pop-up windows” fly?

Internet pop-up advertisements refer to advertisements that pop up automatically when opening web pages, computer software, mobile APPs, etc.

Although years of governance have improved the problem of pop-up ads, overall, pop-up ads still have phenomena such as "overwhelming screens", "unable to turn off" and "peek-a-boo".

The reporter observed that pop-up advertisements would alternately appear in the lower left and lower right corners of the computer screen. Sometimes the pop-up window on the left would appear on the right just two minutes after it was closed, and sometimes even be “online” at the same time.

In less than five and a half hours, pop-up advertisements appeared more than 20 times, including games, shopping, software promotion and even going abroad.

Each ad will last anywhere from 10-20 minutes if not closed manually.

Not only that, when playing video material in a certain video editing software, once a pop-up window is encountered, it will automatically stop playing, which brings great inconvenience to people who have been engaged in video editing for a long time.

In addition to the frequency of pop-up windows, the difficulty of closing is still a problem.

According to the reporter's observation, some pop-up advertisements can see the close button in the background of the computer screen, but when some software is opened, it is no longer displayed, because the close button is not obvious, and it is easy to touch it by mistake; some software clicks the close button multiple times , but there is no response; and some advertisements will still pop up after closing, and even "overwhelm the screen".

Advertisements pop up not only on computers, but also on mobile phones, especially the "shake" mode set in the screen-on advertisements. When the mobile phone is shaken, it will jump by default, and sometimes there are even advertisements within an advertisement.

Such a design not only makes it inevitable for young people, but also causes great distress to the elderly.

The reporter consulted an Internet company, which mainly promotes advertisements in the form of information flow, and can also handle pop-up pushes in the game industry. If you want to push advertisements in the browser, you need to pre-charge fees ranging from 6,000 to 20,000 yuan.

If you want to do open-screen advertisements, you need to spend at least 80,000 yuan per day.

According to the relevant provisions of the "Interim Measures for the Administration of Internet Advertising", the amount of punishment for common illegal phenomena is often below 30,000 yuan, which is even less worth mentioning compared with advertising profits.

How to regulate these illegal advertising promotion models?

According to experts, the "Advertising Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Interim Measures for the Administration of Internet Advertising" are currently promulgated, which are the main basis. There are also some regulations that are mandatory.

In order to ensure the legal, standardized, and orderly development of pop-up advertisements, experts suggest that laws and regulations should be further refined to make them more operable and enforceable. The amount of fines for pop-up advertisements, and the introduction of diversified accountability methods such as punishment for dishonesty, removal of products from shelves, and prohibition of entering the market, implement graded penalties according to the degree of violation.

Consolidate the responsibilities of all parties and strengthen self-censorship responsibilities; at the same time, mobilize industry associations, consumers and other social forces to jointly manage chaos.
