In January 2014, Zhou Kangluo suffered from chronic bronchitis, gastritis, cholecystitis and other diseases, and the nursing home sent him to the hospital for treatment.

On January 12, 2014, Zhou Kangluo ran away from the hospital on his own. Relevant staff from the Civil Affairs Office of the People's Government of Maguan Township and the Nursing Home issued missing person notices and other methods to search for him but failed.
