Alec Baldwin and the shooting's gunman Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are both charged with causing the death of another.

But the fact that the maximum sentence for both of them is now being reduced is because they were charged under a weapons law that had not yet come into force when the incident occurred.

The background in the case is that Alec Baldwin fired a weapon during the filming of the film "Rust" which turned out to be loaded.

The shot hit photographer Halyna Hutchins, who died, and injured director Joel Souza.
