More and more men are having recourse to vasectomy in France: the figures have multiplied by ten over the last ten years.

New techniques are emerging.

At the Toulouse University Hospital, volunteers can now have recourse to a vasectomy... without a scalpel.

An operation under local anesthesia which Europe 1 attended.

Ten times more over the last ten years: more and more men are resorting to vasectomy in France.

In 2021, 23,000 men used it, according to figures from Health Insurance.

At the Toulouse University Hospital, vasectomy can now be done without a scalpel.

A quick operation, without general anesthesia - a first in France.

The operation is done under local anesthesia.

“We are going to do a little injection, sir”, launches Professor Éric Huygue, professor of urology.

After a few minutes, the practitioner will make a simple five millimeter incision.

"With these ring clamps, we will specifically grab the vas deferens. This is the channel that brings the sperm to their destination. This is what allows us to do the vasectomy without having to open any muscle and finally, by a simple speckling of the skin. There are fewer bruises, there is less post-operative pain and there are fewer infections because in the end, the skin is hardly open."

A new technique that reassures this patient

After two children, Guillaume, who comes from Ariège, wanted no more.

This new technique, faster and less invasive, reassured him.

"The second at four years old and we are sure that we do not want others", explains the man at the microphone of Europe 1. "Hormonal contraception, it was complicated, the IUD was complicated.. . There were two solutions left for Madame. For me, this one is simpler. As a matter of fact, she was the one who took it on for a few years, so now everyone has their own share!"

In just 15 minutes, the operation is complete.

Guillaume will be able to go home during the day.

He will now have to wait three months to benefit from contraception after having passed a control spermogram.
