All the looks that show that he has given a radical turn to his style (and we love it)

His name may be foreign to someone who is not very interested in the world of fashion, but his work is reflected on every red carpet in this country.

Freddy Alonso is the architect behind the outfits of such influential actresses as Blanca Suárez, Najwa Nimri or Juana Acosta, but also of some of the most promising new faces in Spanish cinema, from Milena Smit to Zoe Stein, Ana Rujas or Vicky Luengo

.

Each of these women projects a unique and personal image, but they coincide in trusting the vision of the stylist when it comes to building the looks for their public appearances, analyzed to the millimeter.

Despite being one of the great stylists in our country, his career in this field

began by chance more than 15 years ago.

"I haven't studied anything related to fashion, but I've always liked it," Freddy Alonso tells Yo Dona about his beginnings.

"When the first digital magazines began to appear, I helped a friend with one that he was going to publish" and he explains that he began to gain experience in the profession because he was "in charge of organizing the shootings [photo sessions], contacting the representatives of the talents that were going to come out,

First steps as a stylist

Little by little, she entered the fashion industry and directed her work towards styling.

More than 15 years later, her clients are some of the most famous women in this country.

She remembers that the first person she dressed for a red carpet was

Ana Torroja.

"We met at a shooting and she called me to dress her for some awards. I am a huge fan of Mecano, so it was incredible," says Alonso.

Shortly after, he began working with actress

Natasha Yarovenko,

just when the Ukrainian interpreter was making headlines in our country for her participation in Julio Medem's film 'Room in Rome' (2010), where she shared the screen with

Elena Anaya.

"I did some incredible things with her, which gave me a lot of visibility and which made other actresses call me to start dressing them. I'm still working with some from that time, like Juana Acosta

or

Michelle

Jenner,"

says the stylist.

Your working formula

The look we see on the red carpet is the glamorous end result of a process that usually begins in front of the computer.

In Freddy Alonso's day-to-day there is no routine as such, but the starting point consists of "sending emails with requests for looks for events, photo sessions..." and he points out that this "is always the most difficult to achieve. That's the part that frustrates me the most, because for events in Spain we don't have even 1% of the designers or collections available in other countries. We have to do magic with what we can

"

A style for each actress

The stylist almost always opts for international brands, and depending on the style and personality of each actress, he proposes various options according to each moment.

Even in awards season, he doesn't usually work very far in advance-"I've been there the very morning of the awards doing fittings," he says-to avoid last-minute changes.

"I differentiate the style of my actresses a lot, for each one of them a designer or style fits me.

I don't like two of my actresses wearing the same designer to the same event,

it's something I always try to avoid," says the expert in fashion.

And so she did at this year's Goya gala, where she demonstrated once again her skill and her ability to adapt to the particular style of each woman.

At the great national cinema party, she dressed Milena Smit in an impeccable

Saint Laurent tuxedo,

the nominee Zoe Stein in a

Givenchy

Old Hollywood look , and Juana Acosta in a romantic Giambattista Valli dress

The opinion of the actresses

Fashion is a powerful tool when it comes to building a certain image, something key in the world of entertainment, which is why actresses also have something to say when it comes to determining the wardrobe they will wear to the presentation of a film or a delivery of prizes.

However, trust in the stylist is key.

Freddy Alonso points out that he has been "working many years with many of the interpreters, so it's easy" to find the perfect look and assures that he doesn't usually try "many options, most of the time we only try one or two looks,

especially

in important prizes and festivals".

And when does he start working with a new actress?

He is clear about it: "I ask you

to trust me.

I have friends who laugh when I say it, because it is something I repeat a lot (laughs). I think confidence when working is totally necessary. It is the only way that things turn out well. I distinguish their personalities a lot, and they know that what I am going to bring them is the best option they will be able to have at that moment".

The list of celebrities that is placed in Alonso's hands grows each season, but he acknowledges that he is in a position where he can choose "very well the actresses" with whom he wants to work.

And he adds that he is "lucky enough to work with people who for one reason or another are similar to me, so I don't have to adapt to their style, just polish it. I need the person I'm going to work with to motivate me

Beyond our borders

In Spain, the figure of the stylist has begun to gain visibility in recent times, but outside our borders, in countries like the United States, there are

figures almost as influential as the celebrity they dress.

Every year 'The Hollywood Reporter' draws up a list of the most powerful stylists in the 'star system', led in recent editions by Law Roach, Zendaya's stylist for years.

Freddy Alonso acknowledges following the work of names like Harry Lambert

and

Ryan Hastings

very closely

: "I think they are my favorites right now. Harry is known above all for dressing Harry Styles, but I love him because he deals with the whole image of Emma Corrin (Diana in 'The Crown' season 4), who is my favorite actress on red carpets in recent years Ryan Hastings works with Rooney Mara, Mia Goth, Anya Taylor-Joy, Taylor Russell... The always best dressed. I like to keep up to date with what other stylists do, it inspires me a lot, although when it comes to doing my job, I go more for free".
