Chinanews.com, Daxing'anling, Inner Mongolia, February 16th, title: "Post-80s" ecological monitors' dedication and love: becoming a partner of wild animals

  Author Zhang Weisheng

Early in the morning, in the snow-covered forest, Wang Xu and his colleagues drove to the Daxinganling Chuoyuan National Wetland Park in Inner Mongolia with drones, infrared cameras, binoculars, bird-watching mirrors, air monitoring and other equipment to carry out patrol and monitoring work.

The forest is covered with silver, and the car is driving around the mountain. The reporter saw from a distance that the source of the frozen Chuoer River was covered with thick white snow, shining brightly under the reflection of the sun. This is the scenery of the Northland in the poem. .

Entering the Wetland Park, traces of wild animal activities can be seen everywhere on the roadside.

"The beginning of spring has just passed, and all kinds of wild animals are active." Wang Xu was talking, and a little fox slipped past.

"The weather is cold now, and the fox is covered with a layer of hoarfrost, which is difficult to identify. When the weather is warmer, its fur will become fiery red, which is very beautiful." Wang Xu said, with the improvement of people's awareness of ecological protection , The ecological environment in Daxing'an Mountains, Inner Mongolia is getting better and better. Some small animals are not afraid of people, and often "walk" on the side of the road. "Sometimes passing car owners will feed them with some food."

The vast forest, the white snow, the black work clothes are in sharp contrast with the white river.

In the low temperature below -20°C, Wang Xu and his colleagues controlled the drones to search for wild animals based on their footprints, and arranged infrared cameras in their activity areas. Within a few minutes, their hands were frozen stiff.

Wang Xu told reporters that in recent years, they have monitored the activities of wild animals such as brown bears, red deer, and golden eagles more and more frequently, and their populations have also increased significantly. "These were rarely seen before."

Wang Xu, born in 1985, is a native of the forest area. After graduation, he worked in the fire prevention department of Chuoyuan Forest Industry Company.

In March 2021, he was transferred to the Natural Reserve Management Department as a monitor.

Throughout the year, Wang Xu and his colleagues conduct periodic monitoring of water quality, soil, and air in Chuoyuan National Wetland Park, and record and file them in detail. periodic monitoring.

"After monitoring and recording, we have a detailed grasp of the growth and reproduction of wild animals in the ecological function zone, which provides a scientific basis for the protection of wild animals." Wang Xu said.

"The thickness of the ice on the river has increased by about 15 centimeters compared to the same period in previous years." Wang Xu lay on the ice at the source of the Chuoer River, scraped away the snow, and put his hand into the ice crevice about 30 centimeters wide to measure the thickness of the ice.

"The area around the river bank is an important habitat for wild animals. We have to conduct patrols to comprehensively check whether anyone has placed hunting nets, hunting traps, fishing nets and other hunting tools here." Wang Xu said. On-site monitoring and measurement of the ecological environment, in order to make a correct assessment of environmental quality.

Wang Xu said that they also monitor the water quality of the Chuoer River every year during the dry season, poor water season, and wet season; from May to October, they conduct hydrological monitoring twice a month.

"The end of May every year is the season for migratory birds. Swans and demoiselle cranes can be seen everywhere here." Staying in the depths of the mountains all the year round, patrolling the wetlands in the mountains, Wang Xu has been able to accurately judge the frequent activities of birds based on their habits. time period.

"In the future, I will continue to monitor the ecological environment and wild animals with my colleagues, and do a good job in data recording, classification and archiving, so as to provide detailed data support for ecological protection construction." Wang Xu's heart is full of persistence and love.
