It was found that the ducks kept at Tama Zoological Park in Hino City, Tokyo, were suspected of being infected with avian influenza in a simple test by the city, and the city will be closed for the time being from the 15th.

According to the capital, from the 11th to the 14th of this month, a total of three shelducks bred in the duck pond of the Tama Zoological Park in Hino City were found dead one after another.

For this reason, when the city conducted a simple test on the dead ducks, it was found to be positive and suspected to be infected with bird flu.

The metropolitan government plans to conduct genetic testing at the National Institute for Environmental Studies to determine whether the virus is highly infectious and highly pathogenic.

If a bird flu infection is confirmed, it will be the first time in Tokyo since 2018, five years ago.

In addition, a total of 31 ducks were bred in this pond, and in addition to the three that died, another positive was confirmed.

In response to this, the city will close the Tama Zoological Park from the 15th, which was originally closed, for the time being, and disinfect the duck pond and its surroundings.

In addition, to prevent infection, other metropolitan zoos will stop exhibiting some birds, and will strengthen the system to monitor for dead wild birds in the park.
