In an interview given to the microphone of Radio Times on Monday February 13, Hugh Laurie alias Dr House in the eponymous series, confided in the years spent in the skin of the brilliant doctor.

If he earned a lot of money thanks to the show, the actor quickly got tired of his character.

So much so that he dreamed of having an “accident on the way to the studio” to earn “a few days off”. 

Hugh Laurie made big money from the

Dr House

series , in which he played the main character, Gregory House, a brilliant and unsympathetic doctor.

The actor earned an average of $400,000 per episode and his fee even rose to $700,000 per episode, before the series ended in 2012. If he got rich thanks to the show that marked the 2000s , Hugh Laurie does not keep a very good memory. 

"If I could have an accident on the way to the studio"

In an interview given to the microphone of Radio Times Monday, February 13, Hugh Laurie explains that he was tired of his role, endorsed for eight seasons.

"Repeating any routine, day after month after year, can turn into a nightmare," says the actor.

Hugh Laurie still held firm: "Having a work ethic, I was determined never to be late, never to miss a single day of filming (…) But there were times when I thought: 'If I could just have an accident on the way to the studio and earn a few days off to recuperate, how awesome would that be?'" he recalled. 

"It all seemed absurd to me!"

In addition to the weariness experienced during filming, Hugh Laurie struggled to manage his sudden fame.

In his interview, the actor explains that he stopped doing his own shopping because he "couldn't stand people photographing the contents of his basket".

“It all seemed absurd to me. Ridiculous!”, confides the man who finally regained his intimacy by returning to live in England, with his wife and their three children.

Hugh Laurie, who was filming Dr House in the United States, had also suffered from being away from his family.
