At private junior and senior high schools in Chiba Prefecture, the Labor Standards Inspection Office recognizes the time spent by teachers on days off, such as coaching club activities, as working hours, and corrects the school to pay unpaid overtime. made a recommendation.

This was revealed at a press conference by a man in his 20s who worked as a non-regular teacher at Urayasu Junior High School and High School attached to Tokai University in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture.

According to it, the man was in charge of coaching as an advisor for club activities, leading competitions, preparing as a homeroom teacher and responding to students on holidays and outside working hours for the two years until March last year.

Regarding this, the Labor Standards Inspection Office recognized it as working hours, and in December last year issued a correction recommendation to the school asking for unpaid overtime and extra wages.

In some months, the man worked more than 80 hours of overtime, and after that, he fell ill and quit school.

The man said, ``If you are overwhelmed with so many tasks, your attitude towards the students will be half-hearted, and the quality of education will be affected. I want it," he said.

According to the private school teachers' union to which the man belongs, ``In public schools, in exchange for adding 4% to the monthly salary, it is stipulated that no overtime pay will be paid, and the teacher is allowed to work overtime as much as he wants. It highlights the fact that overtime is allowed, but not at public schools, which is contrary to 'equal pay for equal work'."

The school commented, ``We have been discussing in good faith so far.We will continue to discuss it.''
