[Commentary] On the afternoon of February 12th, the condolence ceremony for Master Xingyun held by the mainland condolence group was held at the ancestral home of Fo Guang Shan - Dajue Temple in Yixing, Jiangsu.

Unable to go to Taiwan, Ye Xiaowen, deputy director of the Culture, History and Study Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former director of the State Administration of Religious Affairs, rushed to Dajue Temple to mourn Master Xingyun.

[Explanation] On the same day, Ye Xiaowen was interviewed by a reporter from China News Agency at Dajue Temple in Yixing, feeling a lot of emotion.

Today, I took the train early in the morning to attend condolences. For a few hours, (I) watched the picturesque scenery outside the window flash by in the car, and I thought that the past was not as good as smoke!

Master Hsing Yun's scenes of my relationship with him just flashed (shown) in the past.

(I remember one time) we sat together (chatting), how many things the two of us had to say, as if (each other) were communicating with each other, (let) me very impressed.

[Commentary] After Master Xingyun passed away, Elder Yanjue, the president of the Buddhist Association of China, wrote down the words "Bodhisattva on Earth".

After Master Hsing Yun passed away, Chairman Yanjue wrote him four characters "Human Bodhisattva". These four characters brought the hearts of Chinese Buddhist elders and eminent monks. Heart of condolences.

[Commentary] Ye Xiaowen and Venerable Xingyun have known each other for many years because they worked in the State Administration of Religious Affairs, and they have had many contacts.

  (I) am very willing to actively promote cross-strait Buddhist exchanges, because the two sides are originally a family, and because of work, I got to know Master Hsing Yun.

Hanshan Temple in Suzhou made two big bells imitating the Tang Dynasty, one called the Peace Bell and the other the Hehe Bell. Abbot Qiu Shuang proposed to send the Peace Bell to Taiwan (Fo Guang Shan). Of course I support it. When the Peace Bell was sent to Taiwan, Master Xingyun held a 30,000-person Dharma meeting. Master Xingyun recited a poem on the spot: "The relationship between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is like a dream, and the flesh and blood are not reciprocated. Hanshan Temple, an ancient temple in Suzhou, and the bell of peace comes to Taiwan." I also read a poem. The poem responds: "A bay of shallow water and the moon are in the same sky, and the nostalgia on both sides of the strait makes it difficult to sleep at night. The Buddha's light is thousands of miles away, and the brothers are connected with the bell." (I think) the brothers and the union will be connected in the end. This is Master Xingyun's last wish.

[Commentary] After learning that Master Xingyun passed away, Ye Xiaowen wrote an article recalling the relationship between the two, deeply saddened.

Master Hsing Yun once said that we are all Chinese.

He often said that we should have good intentions, speak good words, and do good deeds. He said that the reunification of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is not only a blessing for Taiwan compatriots, but also the wish of overseas Chinese all over the world.

[Explanation] It is reported that Venerable Hsing Yun, the founding patriarch of Fo Guang Shan in Taiwan, passed away on February 5 in Taiwan.

At the invitation of Fo Guang Shan, the mainland condolence team originally planned to go to Taiwan to express their condolences.

Due to the obstruction of the DPP authorities, the condolence group failed to take place.
