According to the Tidö Agreement, a Swedish cultural canon must be produced, that is, a kind of list of important cultural works that can serve as a common frame of reference.

During the panel discussion at Folk och kultur, different opinions were highlighted on the question "Cultural canon - canon or turkey?".

Split opinions

- This debate is so preoccupied.

We have a Swedish culture and we must produce a cultural canon that shows the best we have from Sweden, says Angelika Bengtsson (SD), member of the culture committee.

Regional politician Thord Andersson (KD), can see some advantages.

- There is a point in both Tensta and Täby reading the same books.

That you have a common base, says Thord Andersson (KD), regional politician.

Peter Fredriksson, director general at the Swedish National Agency for Education, however, is divided.

- I can see the value in students sharing some kind of experience, in this case reading experiences.

But if the purpose is to create some kind of national identity, I doubt it.
